YCNHA Receives National Park Foundation Grant

Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area Receives National Park Foundation Grant to fund the Yuma Live History Adventures program—an all-expense-paid field trip for all Yuma County 3rd–5th grade students.
This immersive experience takes students to the Colorado River State Historic Park, the Yuma Territorial Prison, and the Yuma East Wetlands, where they:
• Solve history through an escape room-style activity.
• Explore ecology on a guided wetlands hike.
• Build siphons and dams while learning the importance of the Colorado River and the U.S. Army’s role in shaping the Desert Southwest.
Over the past five years, we have welcomed more than 4,000 Yuma County students, sharing the history of Yuma’s riverfront through a STEM-based, hands-on curriculum aligned with Arizona State Standards. Running annually from October through April, our goal this season is to expand the program and provide even more students across Yuma County with this enriching field trip experience in a memorable way.
“We spark curiosity in every student and help them see themselves as part of Yuma’s story, giving them a hands-on connection to history that a textbook alone can’t provide.” —Anna Reagle, Grants & Fund Development Manager and Education Outreach Coordinator, YCNHA
Grant funding makes it possible to offer all-expense-paid field trips for local grade schools, covering admission and transportation costs. This support not only helps schools lacking resources but also contributes to our state parks and riverfront—bringing them to life with the energy of students learning and exploring.
